Peony Season Has Arrived in Wellington! 🌸

It's one of our favourite times of the year at Pick a Posy peony season is finally here!

These beautiful, fluffy blooms are loved for their layers of delicate petals, gorgeous colours and romantic charm. Whether you're a long-time peony lover or discovering them for the first time, there's something pretty special about watching a peony open from a tight little bud into a magnificent flower.

And the best part? We're welcoming these seasonal beauties into our Newtown flower shop!

Why Do We Love Peonies So Much?

Peonies are one of those flowers that really make a statement. From soft blush pinks and creamy whites to vibrant corals and rich pinks, they bring a little luxury to any bouquet.

They're beautiful on their own in a simple bunch or mixed with other seasonal flowers to create something truly special.

Here at Pick a Posy, we love working with the changing seasons, and peonies are always a highlight of spring.

When Is Peony Season in New Zealand?

New Zealand peonies typically bloom from October through to December, depending on the weather and growing conditions.

Their season is relatively short, which makes them all the more special!

If you've been waiting all year for these gorgeous flowers, now is the time to enjoy them.

How to Care for Your Peonies

Want to make the most of your beautiful blooms? Here are a few tips from our florists:

• Give the stems a fresh cut: Trim approximately 1–2 cm off the stems at an angle before placing them in water.

• Use a clean vase: Fresh water and a clean vase will help your flowers last longer.

• Keep them cool: Display your peonies away from direct sunlight, heaters and ripening fruit.

• Change the water regularly: Fresh water every couple of days helps keep your flowers looking their best.

• Be patient: Peonies often arrive in tight buds, but watching them gradually open is part of their magic!
