A little bit about us...The quick version
We're a friendly team of florists, whether you visit us in store, give us a call or order online. Based in Newtown, Wellington, we create beautiful flowers for birthdays, weddings, farewells and all of life's moments in between. Pick a Posy has been proudly serving Wellington since 1952, and we still get excited every morning when fresh flowers arrive at the shop.

Meet The Team
| Some people find flowers later in life. For Philippa, it all started much earlier.
Growing up, Philippa's mum had a passion for floral art and spent countless hours in the garden. Surrounded by beautiful flowers from an early age, it wasn't long before that love grew into a career. In 2002, the day after leaving school, Philippa started working as a florist and has never looked back. More than twenty years later, she still gets excited when fresh flowers arrive each morning. Over the years, she worked alongside some wonderful florists, gaining experience, developing her own style and, most importantly, meeting Gina. Their shared love of flowers, creativity and genuine care for customers has grown into a lifelong friendship and a wonderful working partnership. Today, Philippa, Gina and Hayley work together to create beautiful flowers for every occasion. Whether it's designing bouquets, creating wedding flowers, delivering arrangements across Wellington or helping customers choose the perfect gift, they genuinely love being part of life's special moments. We can't wait to create something beautiful for you. |

About the History of Pick a Posy
Pick a Posy has been part of Wellington's floral story for more than 70 years.  Our journey began in 1952, when talented florist John Hosman (Photo above) opened Scheherazade on Woodward Street before moving to 332 Lambton Quay in Wellington's CBD. Known for beautiful flowers, exceptional service and creative floral design, Scheherazade quickly became one of Wellington's most loved florists. In 1982, Cheryl Williams ( photo below) and Wendy Bland became the next custodians of the business. A few years later, in 1988, they relocated the shop to Bay Road in Kilbirnie, where Scheherazade became affectionately known by many locals as "The Kilbirnie Florist." For more than three decades, Cheryl helped generations of Wellington families celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, new babies and life's more difficult moments with beautiful flowers. In 2014, I (Philippa Anderson) was honoured to become the next owner of this much-loved florist. Together with Gina, I continued the tradition of beautiful flowers, personal service and caring for the loyal customers who had supported the business for so many years. We renamed the business The Flower Studio, Scheherazade, while respecting the history that made it so special. In 2023, we began another exciting chapter by moving to Lyall Bay Junction and introducing our new name, Pick a Posy. Today, from our new home in Newtown, we're proud to carry more than seven decades of history into the future. While our name and location have changed over the years, our passion for flowers, genuine customer service and creating beautiful arrangements has remained exactly the same. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, welcoming a new baby, planning a wedding, sending sympathy flowers or simply brightening someone's day, we're honoured to be part of your story.
